Updates 9.25.08

Matthew 11:28-30
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

ALANA:
This is from my mom:
Jan called at 8:45pm (Phx time) to give a report on Alana.

She has been admitted back into the hospital. They did a chest x-ray and it came back negative. So, with Heather's advice (and expertise), she told Justin to insist on a cat-scan. The cat-scan shows pneumonia and congestive heart failure. She is a sick little girl! The doctors have given her meds to fight the infections and to help her rest.

Please pray for:
*Complete healing
*No long term heart damage
*Wisdom for the doctors
*Justin, Jan & Alan to make quick, decisive, assertive decisions

Heather, thank you for your medical knowledge!

BRIAN:
He is scheduled for another (2nd this month!) angioplasty this morning at 5:00am PST.

Please pray for:
*Wisdom for the doctors
*Patience for both Brian and Sheryl
*The problem will be indentified

Prayer Requests

1. Please keep the Riekers in your prayers. Alana Rieker is my cousin. She had a baby last weeked and is still struggling with health issues. Please pray that she heals quickly and no further complications arise. Her daughter, Ainsley, is healthy, so that is a huge praise. Her husband, Justin, is an all-star right now. He's taking time off from work to care for both Alana and Ainsley. Please pray that God will continue to give him strength, patience and wisdom.

2. Please pray for my pastor, Darren, and his wife, Donna. They don't have any kids, but they have two labs that are they're "boys." The dogs are 10 years old brothers. Darren and Donna had to put one of them to sleep last night because of cancer. To them, it's like losing a child. Please pray that God will allow them to grieve the loss and comfort them during this time.

3. My dad is once again having heart problems. He has a doctors appointment today to determine what the problem is. Please pray that the doctors will be able to pin-point the problem and come up with a solution.

God is always faithful.

Daddy's Game

Eden loves going to her dad's football games. Here are her reasons:

1. I get to stay up way past my bedtime.
2. I can climb on everything.
3. Snacks are unlimited. If I want a goldfish- I help myself!
4. Everyone talks to me.
5. I play with all of my friends.
6. (Don't tell dad, but I think some of the boys have crushes on me)
7. Mom lets me dig through her purse for hours. I find all sorts of cool stuff.

The park

We love to go to the park!

Recipes

Here are some recipes from this past week. www.eatbetteramerica.com is a great resource for healthy cooking.

"Healthified” Carrot Cake":
Changes: None- it’s awesome!

Orange Sweet Potatoes:
Changes: None- Brock (and Eden) LOVED them. He kept saying “these are so good” the whole time we were eating.

Chicken breast marinade: zest and juice from one lime, 1 teaspoon minced garlic, 2 T balsamic vinegar, pinch of salt and pepper.... Brock made it up awhile ago. It’s excellent.

Carrabba’s Herb Oil for Dipping Bread:
Changes: Only use ½ t of crushed red pepper

Whole Grain Blueberry Waffles:
Changes: Used egg beaters equal to one egg, added some wheat germ in place of wheat flour, added pinch of cinnamon and dash of vanilla

Chewy Chocolate Oat Bars:
Changes: Added 1/3 cup reduced fat peanut butter to chocolate sauce

Triple Berry Granola Crisp:
Changes: Omit raspberries next time because of tartness

Honey Nut Granola:
Changes: No pecans. I use this granola for the berry crisp listed above.

Photo Shoot

We took some pictures of Eden for her 1st birthday card.

In the beginning it was fun...

By the end, it wasn't fun anymore...
